Exploring BarbieLand:
A 3-Hour Online Workshop
“My whole philosophy of Barbie was that through the doll, the little girl could be anything she wanted to be. Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices. Every little girl needed a doll through which to project herself into her dream of her future.”
Ruth Handler, Creator of Barbie
You loved the Barbie movie and now you want to talk about some of the complex theories, ideas, and emotions it brought up for you. In this 3-hour online workshop we will:
Discover the 3 values of patriarchy and learn to step away from them so that you are less impacted by them
Talk about the double binds of femininity and masculinity and how to ground yourself in your own, unique, gender expression
Explore matriarchy culture and matriarchal values
Find your personal mantra/song (Barbie has” Closer to Fine”)
Have fun!
After the workshop you will be provided via email, a one-page resource pdf containing articles, videos, and films to explore the topics that were discussed during the Exploring BarbieLand workshop.
